A school girl is in hospital after being hit by a building site gate in Penrith this morning.

The girl, aged around 12, was injured as she walked on the pavement past the building site of the new Premier Inn where a wooden gate blew open and hit her.

The girl's injuries are not know at this stage.

Our thoughts are with the girl and her family at this difficult time. We will be working with the site contractor to conduct a full inquiry into what happened.
