Woman falls 30ft near banks of River Eden

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after falling 30ft down a rocky embankment on the River Eden in Cumbria.

The woman, from Carlisle, suffered serious head, neck and arm injuries after falling near to Lacy's Caves, just north of Little Salkeld at around 1:30pm.

Penrith Mountain Rescue and emergency services attended to the woman, who was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. She remains in hospital in a stable condition.
