A helpline set up for older people who are feeling isolated and lonely has taken its one millionth call.
The Silver Line was launched less than three years ago by Childline founder Dame Esther Rantzen.
It provides support, advice and a friendly ear to callers 24 hours a day and puts them in touch with local groups and services.
Closer to home, the Silver Line has had nearly twelve thousand calls from Cumbria and the south of Scotland since November 2013.
Ninety per cent of all callers to the service reported that they live alone and more than half of all callers say they are so lonely they literally have nobody else to speak to.
