Repairs for A595 bridge in west Cumbria

Work to repair a bridge along the A595 in Cumbria will get underway next Monday (12 September).

The £155,000 Highways England scheme will see the bridge at Blackbeck between Egremont and Calder Bridge re-waterproofed and concrete on the structure repaired.

Temporary traffic lights and a temporary speed limit will be in place around the clock during the repairs which Highways England say are expected to end on Monday 24 October.

“This is a vital repairs and maintenance programme and given the location we will need to install temporary traffic lights to ensure we can complete the work safely. We have instructed our contractors to ensure the traffic lights are monitored at key times during the day to prevent needless queueing and help minimise disruption to people’s journeys.

“In planning these works we have also involved key stakeholders such as Sellafield. The repairs are south of Blackbeck roundabout so that route remains available for people travelling to the complex from the Egremont side. Staff travelling from the Calder Bridge side can gain access without going near the bridge.”
