Teenager trapped under car in Maryport

A 16-year-old boy has been seriously injured after being trapped beneath a car in Maryport at 5:30am this morning.

The pedestrian, who is local to the area, was involved in a collision with a Ford Focus on the A596 at the junction with Gavel Street.

Firefighters had to use specialist equipment to cut him free, and he was transferred to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle with serious chest injuries.

He is reported to be in a stable condition, and the driver of the Ford Focus was not injured.

The road has re-opened, and Cumbria Police are asking anyone with information to contact them on 101.
