Police are appealing for witnesses following a five vehicle crash near Kendal that left an 86-year-old seriously injured.
Officers were called to the incident involving a Renault Clio, Kia Rio, Citroen C4, Ford Fiesta and Ibiza Sport on the A590 at around 5:20pm yesterday.
After the collision the 86-year-old front seat passenger of the Fiesta got out of the car and was hit by another vehicle.
The driver and passenger of the Clio, a man and woman in their 80s, from Grange, were taken to Westmorland General Hospital with minor injuries.
Police say nobody else was injured but the road was closed for six hours while officers carried out investigations.
