Man seriously hurt in burglary hammer attack
Three men and one woman have been arrested in connection with an aggravated burglary in Carlisle which left a man with a serious injury.
Police were called at 4.17pm on Saturday following a report of a window being smashed at a house on Bower Street.
Offenders forced entry to the property and a man, armed with a hammer, attacked the occupants.
A 39-year-old man suffered a serious head injury and was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary.
A woman, also 39, suffered a broken finger.
Those arrested are all from Carlisle. The three men are aged 33, 26 and 23. The woman is aged 31.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
