Pedestrian seriously injured in A596 collision

A man is in hospital with serious injuries, after a collision on the A596 near the Cumbrian hamlet of Micklethwaite.

The accident happened just after midnight, and involved a blue Ford Focus and a pedestrian.

The 49-year-old pedestrian was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, but has now been transferred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.

The incident happened between the B5302 King Street and A595 / A595 (Thursby Roundabout), and the road was closed both ways, but has now re-opened.

Police are urging any witnesses to contact Cumbria Police on 101.
