The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, will be baptising Christians from different denominations on Easter Saturday. Thirteen people from local churches will be baptised outside York Minster by being totally immersed in a large tank of water.
The service of baptism has been organised by One Voice York, a network of Christian churches and leaders of different denominations working together across the city. The Archbishop of York will baptise all thirteen people along with their own church leader, who will also be in the water.
The joy of Easter is that it's never too late to make a fresh start. The outdoor service on Holy Saturday has a real carnival atmosphere, and we often get hundreds of people coming along. These people getting baptised outside York Minster are very brave - not just because they're getting baptised outdoors in the Yorkshire spring - but because they are publicly declaring that they are making a U-turn from sin, evil and the ways of the world and becoming followers of Christ.
