What an amazing effort by all the team in today’s Paris Marathon; me excepted. Rebecca completed a personal best of 3hr 35min, a brave attempt on the first day of an intense 8 days. Everyone else was comfortable and had very respectable times. The weather was unseasonably cold, the course attractive for most of the route but it’s let down a little by the organisation which at times is a little shambolic. As for me it was a pathetically disappointing effort, the only positive being that I completed the marathon and live to fight another day though I’m not sure how I’ll get through one. People often ask if Jane’s inspiration will get me round an event, to be honest she was such unique person it’s impossible to begin to understand her mental strength. The one thing about doing the challenge in her memory is that it means giving up is not really an option. I’ve no idea how I’m going to get through tomorrow but as Jane would say it’s another day and it may get better. It’s frustrating having injuries but Jane’s starting point was being terminally ill so I need to cut out any self pity. Tomorrow we are joined by Chrissie Wellington, I could do with a rope attached for her to pull me along
