Public sector strikes

Job Centre staff are walking out Credit: Calendar

Around 20,000 members of the PCS Union in Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire are expected to take part in a national strike along with other public sector unions. They are against the government's plans to change pension contributions. They say it will mean they pay more, work longer and get less in retirement. Staff from Jobcentres, Tax Offices, Courts, Immigration and Border Services and Ministry of Defence Establishment will be affected by the national walkout.

Our members are angry that they are being asked to pay three times as much and work up to eight years longer, for a smaller pension. This action sends a clear message to Government Ministers that we are not prepared to accept their plans. The truth is Public Sector Pensions are affordable - the average pension for a PCS member is just £80 per week.
