Wakefield Trinity Wildcats winger Ben Cockayne has been rewarded for his fine start to the Super League season with a call-up to the England elite training squad.

The 29 year old, who signed from Hull KR in the winter, has scored 6 tries in his opening 5 games for new club Wakefield.

“The coaches and established players look forward to welcoming him into the group at our first camp later this month. We hope he can build on his selection and continue his progress as a top class Rugby League player.”

Cockayne will join up with his international teammates for a training camp at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire over the weekend of 16 March.

“This is hopefully the first step to possibly playing for my country. To be recognised amongst the elite of English Rugby League is my biggest honour to date and I can’t wait to meet up with the rest of the England boys in the next couple of weeks.”

Of the 30 players selected, 15 of them play at clubs in our region.
