The man from Yorkshire who took on one of energy's Big Six

Barry Payling took two of energy's Big Six firms to court and won

Barry Payling from Rawmarsh in South Yorkshire has taken on some of the biggest companies in the world, and won.

For the second time in four years Mr Payling brought one of energy's Big Six companies to court and he says more people should be prepared to challenge them.

Tenants of Mr Payling's late mother's house which he rents out left behind an energy bill of £450 and the dispute over who owed the money went to court. It was ruled that nPower had to pay him almost £2,400 in compensation.

Just four years ago Mr Payling won a landmark ruling against British Gas after a court ruled they'd wasted his time trying to resolve a dispute over inaccurate bills that was not his fault.

He told David Hirst more people should stand up to the Big Six:

More and more people are fighting back against big firms with a record number of 1.7 million complaints against energy suppliers in the first quarter of this year.

Archna Luthra from told ITV Calendar issues can be resolved without going to court:
