Thavisha Peiris' killer told he cannot complain about sentence

Thavisha Peiris was working his last shift as a delivery driver before starting a new job as an IT consultant.

A man who killed a pizza delivery driver in Sheffield has been told by judges he cannot complain about his jail sentence.

Kasim Ahmed was sentenced to a minimum of 23 years for the murder of IT graduate, Thavisha Peiris.

Mr Peiris, 25, was originally from Sri Lanka, but was finishing his last shift as a delivery driver before starting his dream job as an IT consultant.

Ahmed, who was on bail for breaching the conditions of his licence after being released from jail for a previous robbery, launched a frenzied knife attack on Mr Peiris and left him to die in October 2013.

His lawyers said the sentence was too long and didn't take enough account of Ahmed's background, but the complaints were dismissed by three of the country's most senior judges.

Lord Justice Jackson said the judge's conclusions were justified and the sentence was 'not excessive'.
