A charity which campaigns to improve the position of women in India is being supported by the Yorkshire Indian Society as part of its work to increase awareness of gender inequality.
Jagori Grameen supports marginalised and underprivileged women in Himachal Pradesh. It aims to empower young people and women through education in agriculture, health and governance.
The charity runs a scholarship support programme to promote education among girls in India. This helps them to become confident in fighting for their rights, and fighting for gender equality at home and in the workplace. They are made aware of the legal support available to them. It also allows them to find jobs and gain financial independence.
The Yorkshire Indian Society is holding a gala dinner to raise money to support the work of the Jagori Grameen charity, along with Sacar UK and the Yorkshire Cancer Centre.
