Police clampdown on anti-social behaviour in Barnsley

Operation Duxford briefing

Almost 200 police officers and staff are in Barnsley today, working alongside a variety of partner agencies, to tackle issues such as crime and anti-social behaviour across the district.

It follows concerns raised by residents and is part of Operation Duxford, launched by South Yorkshire Police last year - to tackle crime, protect vulnerable people and engage with communities in order to provide reassurance.

A number of warrants have been executed and there will be an increased police presence throughout the day, particularly in the town centre, around the interchange and in Kendray and Goldthorpe.

We will be focusing on tackling antisocial behaviour and criminal damage, as we know this has been an issue in the areas mentioned.

We already deploy numerous resources to tackle these issues, as well as working alongside partner agencies such as the council, and Operation Duxford allows us to utilise further resources to have a dedicated day of action to apprehend offenders and further engage with the community.

If you see us out and about, please do come and speak to us. We want to hear what issues are affecting you where you live so that we can do something about it.
