Warnings have been issued to drivers using motorways and major A roads overnight and tomorrow morning during Storm Aileen.
Highways England put out an amber ‘be aware’ alert across the country in response to a Met Office forecast of strong winds and heavy rain.
Westerly winds are expected to increase during the this evening into the early hours tomorrow morning with gusts of more than 60mph possible over exposed roads.
Drivers of lorries, caravans and motorbikes are being advised to be especially careful.
In our region the following roads could be affected:
- The M1J32-40
- A628 Woodhead Pass
- The M62 in West Yorkshire
- Huddersfield to Brighouse
- The A1(M) J47-J49 and J58-J65
- The Humber Bridge
