One of the two winding towers at Kellingley Colliery has been demolished – almost two years after the pit closed for the last time.
Sirens sounded two minutes before a blast destroyed tower two shortly after 10am today.
Some of the pit's former miners were there to witness the tower coming down.
It could be another year before the other tower is demolished.
Kellingley – nicknamed 'Big K' – was the UK's last deep coal mine. It closed in December 2015.
Harworth Group, the former property arm of UK Coal, has been given permission to redevelop the site as manufacturing and distribution space.
