Guilty murder verdict for 'bully' who stabbed neighbour to death

A woman who terrorised her neighbours, eventually stabbing one of them to death, has been found guilty of murder and witness intimidation at Hull Crown Court.

Joanne Hemingway was stabbed by Angela Burkitt outside their flats in Beverley Road, Hull, last June.

Burkitt was described by police as a bully, who over a sustained period of time had bullied both 39-year-old Joanne Hemingway and other residents in and around the area where they lived.

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Curtis said he, his team and Joanne’s family welcomed the jury's decision. Burkitt will be sentenced shortly, as will Glenn Foster, also known as Eddie Walker, who has already pleaded guilty to various offences.

Angela Burkitt is a bully, and over a sustained period of time she had bullied Joanne Hemingway and other residents in and around the area they lived in Hull.

On 29th of June this year Joanne stood up to Angela Burkitt and confronted her outside their home addresses on Beverley Road. This confrontation cost Joanne her life. She was tragically stabbed and subsequently died of her injuries.

Joanne had a big heart and was an integral part of a loving and supportive family unit. She is irreplaceable and will be deeply missed by us all and everyone who knew her.
