More than 80 people from our region recognised in Queen's New Year Honours list

Former Deputy Prime Minister and Sheffield MP Nick Clegg has been knighted in the New Year's Honours list.

The first Briton in space, Helen Sharman, who grew up in Sheffield and studied in the city is made a Dame.

Author Jilly Cooper who was raised in Ilkley is honoured with a CBE for her writing and her charity work.

There are also many others who have been singled out for their work in the community including Sally Elizabeth Cooke who is from Bridlington who will receive an OBE For services to Further Education Accessibility and Inclusion and Mervyn Bishop from Hull will receive an MBE for services to victim support and to young people in East and North Yorkshire.

An MBE too for the boss of the Doncaster - based Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Cheryl Williams, who opened the attraction 8 years ago

One of the country's longest serving lifeboat coxswains is honoured with an MBE . David Steenvordern is the skipper of the Humber lifeboat and has served with the RNI for 31 years.

Steven Robinson from Leeds said he is 'flying high' after being recognised with a British Empire Medal for services to Disabled People.

Jean Bishop - the Bee Lady has raised more than £118,000 over the past 25 years rattling collecting tins on the streets of Hull in her bee costume. Jean who's now 95 has been honoured for services to Age UK and charity.
