Girl struck by runaway wheel on her way to school has died

An 11-year-old girl has died after being struck by the runaway wheel of a passing 4x4 vehicle in Lincolnshire.

Amelia Wood was walking to school when the wheel came off a white Land Rover Discovery in Manby, near Louth, at around 8 am on Tuesday. She was taken to the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham by air ambulance but died yesterday.

Investigations into the accident are continuing. Police say they have already spoken to a number of witnesses and would like to hear from anyone else who saw the Land Rover travelling in Manby on the B1200, Manby Middlegate road, towards Saltfleetby.

Amelia's present and former schools have issued statements, saying her 'kindness shone through' and that she will be remembered as a 'vibrant, passionate and very determined student'.
