Eve, two, makes medical history in operation using pig skin

Responding well: Eve Philipson

A two-year-old girl from Doncaster has responded well to a life-saving operation that's believed to be a UK first.

Eve Philipson was diagnosed with a rare condition whilst in the womb and born without a diaphragm - the muscle that separates the stomach from the chest.

But in a pioneering operation, surgeons at Sheffield Children's Hospital used her own abdominal muscle to create a new one - and replaced the missing muscle with pig skin.
