Residents against fracking have staged a noisy protest at the start of a public inquiry in Chesterfield.
They are opposing plans by oil company Ineos to search for shale gas reserves at Marsh Lane , near Eckington. Derbyshire county councillors have already voted to reject the scheme.
Today more than 20 councillors and residents said they want to speak at the public inquiry. They told the inspector about possible noise, environmental pollution and the fact they say the rural roads around the site are unsuitable for heavy construction traffic.
The QC for Ineos said he would be addressing some of those concerns in his evidence to the inquiry and he stressed the proposal was strongly supported by government policy.
