Poundworld closes West Yorkshire HQ as chain set to disappear from the high street

The bargain retailer Poundworld closes its head office and warehouse in Normanton, West Yorkshire, today, with the loss of around 300 jobs.

Administrators Deloitte originally announced the closure of 145 Poundworld stores when they were brought in last month - but now says all 335 are likely to close by August 10th.

Clare Boardman, joint administrator at Deloitte, thanked employees for their 'continued support and commitment during this difficult time' and said they were keeping staff appraised of developments as they happen.

The administrators are still in talks with some interested parties about selling parts of the remaining business, but hopes of saving a significant number of jobs has faded.
