Shaun Lunt, the captain of Hull Kingston Rovers, has been hospitalised with a "serious infection".

The former England hooker is believed to have contracted bacterial meningitis.

Hull KR say Lunt was taken to hospital with a serious infection on Thursday, and is undergoing further tests.

He joined the Rovers rugby league team in 2016 after previously playing for Castleford, Huddersfield and Leeds.

"Everybody connected to Hull KR wishes Shaun all the best for a speedy recovery and we look forward to welcoming him back for pre-season training in November."
