Man, 70, appears in court charged with Bradford pensioner Amy Shepherd's murder in 1994

A 70-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a Bradford pensioner more than two decades ago.

Amy Shepherd, who was 86, was stabbed and strangled at her sheltered housing home in the Wibsey area of the city in August 1994.

Raymond Kay, of Baker Fold, Halifax, appeared before Bradford Magistrates' Court on Friday morning.

He was wearing a black leather jacket and spoke on only to confirm his name, age and address.

The families of both the victim and the accused were in court for the hearing.

No application for bail was made on behalf of Kay, who will next appear at Bradford Crown Court on Monday (17 December).
