Penny Pie Park decision: Protestors form human chain around councillors' bus
Residents fighting to save a popular park in Barnsley from being partially bulldozed to make way for a new road formed a human chain around a bus carrying councillors visiting the site.
More than 2,500 people have signed a petition against Barnsley council's plans to turn around a quarter of penny pie park into a three lane gyratory.
The council says the scheme is needed to cut traffic jams and ease congestion. But protestors say it will destroy vital green space, increase air pollution and noise and goes against the local authorities planning blueprints.
Today Barnsley's planning committee is due to decide the issue on a visit to the park this morning.
A small number of protestors formed a human chain human around the vehicle for around 30 minutes.
