The 35 year old victim had been walking in the direction of York Road after visiting The International Food Store, in Harehills, when he was hit from behind and knocked unconscious.

He was taken to hospital suffering significant facial injuries as a result of the attack.

It happened on Wednesday January 30 between 8.30pm and 9pm on Harehills Lane.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward, in particular a man described as young and Polish, who helped the victim to his feet and may have seen what happened.

We are investigating this serious assault in which the victim appears to have been targeted at random while walking on the street.

We would very much like to speak with any witnesses and in particular a young male who helped the victim to his feet in the aftermath of the assault.

It is possible this man, who the victim thought was Polish, may well have seen what took place.

Anyone who can assist the enquiry is asked to contact Leeds CID on 101 referencing crime number 13190062382.
