She was reported missing in January by her concerned family after she failed to make contact with them.

Alena was last seen on Boxing Day 2018, when she was captured on CCTV leaving The Travellers Inn on Rawmarsh Hill, Parkgate at around 7pm that evening.

A man she was seen leaving with was traced and has been eliminated from our enquiries.

She was later seen at The Fitzwilliam Arms Hotel, Taylors Lane, Parkgate at around 10.30pm that same evening, walking towards Rawmarsh Hill but had not been seen since.

A post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday evening however the cause of death was unascertained.

Our investigation in to Alena’s disappearance, and now the discovery of her body, is continuing to progress at pace, and I can confirm that we are now treating this as a murder inquiry.

We have also arrested a 45 year old Rotherham man in connection to the investigation.

He has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody, where he will be interviewed by officers.
