Armed police in operation to arrest man in Seacroft

Armed police at arrest scene

A man's been arrested in Leeds in an operation involving armed officers.

Around a dozen armed officers were seen outside a house in Redmire Drive at Seacroft. West Yorkshire Police say they were there to carry out 'arrest enquiries' in relation to a report of an incident involving a firearm on April 21.

Shortly after 11am today (April 23rd) a 26-year-old man was arrested from the address on suspicion of burglary and possession of a firearm and taken into custody.

Police say a number of loud bangs were infact smoke bombs and not gunshots.

A cordon was put in place to ensure the public's safety

The firearms operation has now been stood down and a scene remains in place at the address to undergo a search. Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team are continuing to liaise with community representatives in the area to keep them updated and reassure the community.
