Greg Clark, the Secretary of State for Business, has told ITV News Calendar that he will "do everything I can" to ensure British Steel's Scunthorpe works continue to operate.
He also revealed he had met a potential buyer for the collapsed firm this (Thursday) morning, although admitted any sale is "a very long way down the road" and that "it is for the official receiver to find and negotiate with new partners".
"Everyone is motivated to make sure that what are great facilities, that make great steel, should be able to continue for the future," he said. "Everyone is doing absolutely everything to secure that, and that is everyone's sole focus."
