Work has started on a £2m scheme to protect Whitby from tidal flooding.
A 300 metre wall is to be built along Church Street to protect homes and businesses.
Whitby has a long history of tidal flooding, with records back to the 1800s.
The town was badly hit in 2005 and 2011 as there are no formal defences in place.
The new wall should be complete by the end of next spring.
