Drivers whose parked cars block emergency crews have been criticised for putting lives at risk.

It comes after a South Yorkshire fire engine was blocked in Manvers Road, Beighton near Sheffield, as it responded to reports of a blaze.

Cars blocked its way, as it tried to negotiate the street at 12.20am.

South Yorkshire Fire Service has released a photograph of the scene to highlight the issue.

The fire crews were delayed getting to the incident, but fortunately the call out was a false alarm and the fire was already extinguished.

A Fire service spokeswoman said: "It happens quite a bit.

"It's not just us, its all the emergency crews who are affected and get delayed. But fortunately on this occasion it was a false alarm."
