Sheffield Hallam MP Jared O' Mara has been arrested on suspicion of fraud, according to reports.
The 37-year-old was questioned by police last week before being released pending further investigation. His chief of staff Gareth Arnold was reportedly arrested on suspicion to commit fraud before being released.
ITV News has attempted to contact Mr O' Mara but has not received a response.
Mr O'Mara has attracted controversy in the past.
He was suspended by the Labour Party after a string of online comments came to light, relating to sexism and homophobia. He apologised and was reinstated in July 2018, but resigned nine days later to sit as an independent MP.
Last month Mr O' Mara announced he intended to stand down in September after taking some time out for "mental health and personal issues", following allegations of sexual misconduct towards staff.
