The heartbroken mother of a teenager who lived near Stamford has welcomed the launch of a new lifesaving scheme in York today six months after he drowned there on a night out.
19 year old Sonny Ferry is one of five people who've lost their lives in a matter of months in York's rivers.
Today firefighters and the RNLI teamed up to begin training staff working in riverside bars and restaurants how to throw rescue lines to those in distress.
Sonny's mother says the training is a huge step in the right direction to try and save other lives. Jon Hill reports.
