A lamb named Autumn has made a surprise appearance at Cannon Hall Farm near Barnsley.

The farm always lambs in February and Spring when the mild weather makes it easier to care for the flock - and this unseasonal arrival took everyone by surprise.

Farmer Robert Nicholson - whose family opened to the public in 1989 - said: “It was a surprise to us all and we’ve really no idea how it happened. We think one of the Soay rams must have snuck in one night.

“We’ve moved the lamb and the ewe into the roundhouse where we can give them shelter and make sure they are kept warm and fed. It will be fine and it will be as much of a surprise for our visitors as it was for us I’m sure.”
