Fresh hopes for British Steel rescue bid

British Steel employs around 4,000 people in Scunthorpe Credit: ITV Yorkshire

There are fresh hopes tonight of a rescue bid for British steel, after reports that a Chinese firm which previously pulled out of the bidding is reconsidering a rescue offer.

Representatives from the Jingye group are expected to visit the Scunthorpe steelworks next week.

It comes after talks with the government's preferred bidder, an arm of the Turkish military pension fund, stalled.

British steel, which employs around 4 thousand people in Scunthorpe, went into liquidation in May.
