Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over Rotherham shooting

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a shooting in Rotherham last night.

A 29-year old man was taken to hospital after being shot outside a supermarket on Burman Road in Wath-Upon Dearne. His injuries aren't life-threatening.

South Yorkshire Police have spent the day carrying out door to door enquries.

The 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene, on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody where he will be questioned by officers.

There will be extra policing resources in the area today, carrying out detailed enquiries to establish the exact circumstances around what happened and provide reassurance to local residents.
