Police hunting gunman after 15-year-old boy shot in Huddersfield

Police have launched an investigation after a schoolboy was shot in Huddersfield.

Officers were called to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary after the 15 year old arrived at A&E.

The 15 year old boy's injuries are not thought to be life threatening. But police described the injuries as "consistent to a firearms discharge."

The gun was fired on Dalton Fold Road near the junction of Heathergrove Fold at about 19.30 on Saturday night.

The police say the 15 year old was leaving a house when he was followed by a group of young males, one of whom had a firearm.

Anyone who has any information is urged to contact the police on 101 quoting log 1629 of 15 February.

This is clearly a very frightening incident which will cause concern in the local community.

"It’s extremely lucky that the victim was not seriously hurt, the consequences could have been much worse.

"We have a dedicated team of detectives working alongside Kirklees Police to find who’s responsible. The use of criminal firearms will not be tolerated in our community."
