Weather - Gales developing. Further spell of rain and hill snow

Warnings in place from the Met Office this weekend Credit: Met Office

SATURDAY:

Sunny spells follow morning rain. Scattered blustery showers, some heavy with a chance of thunder. Clouding over later with rain perhaps reaching the west as gales develop. Highs 8°C but feeling much colder in the wind.

A very unsettled evening - wet, windy and wintry with snow on hills - but rain and hill snow should make erratic progress northwards with time, leaving a drier end to the night. Cold, with icy patches possible. Lows -1°C.

SUNDAY:

Big waves at high tide! A very blustery start.

Cold and rather cloudy at first, with some rain and hill snow perhaps lingering in the north. Gradually becoming brighter and less windy, with only isolated showers through the afternoon. Highs again to 8°C.

OUTLOOK:

Rather cold and often windy, with sunny spells and blustery showers, these showers wintry on hills. Uncertainty increases significantly by midweek, but more prolonged rain and hill snow possible.
