Thousands of people in our region are spending lockdown 'trapped' in tower blocks with unsafe cladding after the coronavirus outbreak meant that work to remove it was put on hold.

Residents are having to pay hundreds of pounds a month for round-the-clock patrols in case the potentially flammable materials catch light.

Work had been due to remove the cladding – deemed unsafe following the Grenfell Tower disaster three years ago.

But more than half the repairs across the country have been put on hold as contractors scale back their work because of the lockdown
