CEMEX announces job losses with proposed mothballing of South Ferriby cement plant

A hundred jobs are at risk in North Lincolnshire after the cement company Cemex announced plans to mothball its plant in South Ferriby.

The company is planning to end production there in the summer after a major review of its European business. It insists the decision to end production at the 82-year-old plant is not linked to the financial impact of the Coronavirus.

In a statement Cemex say it is anticipated that the proposal may result in redundancies of all the employees currently based at the South Ferriby Cement Plant. It adds that the current cement drivers based at South Ferriby are not immediately impacted but the intention is to review the optimal haulage provision.

CEMEX says it will shortly commence a process of collective consultation with affected employees and that a final decision will be announced when complete.
