Dashcam footage shows the shocking moment a dog falls out of the boot of a moving car on a busy Hull road.
Charlie Simpson, 22, of west Hull, was driving home from his job in Dunswell on Tuesday evening when he witnessed the moment on Walton Street.
As he pulled up to the lights at the Anlaby Road junction of the street the boot of the car in front came open and out rolled the dog into the busy road.
I was on my way home from work, like I do every day, going down Walton Street and the light in front of me turned green and as it did the car in front of me pulled away. Then the boot just opened and a dog rolled out. I didn’t know what to do at first. I panicked, I love dogs myself. I’m a big animal lover and I don’t want to see animals get harmed. I couldn’t forgive myself if the dog got hurt.
Stunned by what he had seen, Charlie’s first instinct was to make sure the dog was safe.
“My first thought was get the dog into my car so I can go and catch up with the guy,” he said.
“The owner had gone round the corner so I couldn’t see him.
“I pulled up at the side and tried to coax the dog into the car but it ran in front of the car and ran to the other side of the road.
“Luckily, the owner came round the corner and as the dog spotted him he ran back. It seemed absolutely fine.
"It wasn’t squealing or anything so I just got back in my car and went home.”
