Police are investigating the discovery of a body in the water near a seaside pier.

North Yorkshire Police were contacted by the coastguard at Scarborough after the body was seen on Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson said: "Sadly it was confirmed that the person was deceased."We are now working to confirm their identity and the circumstances around the incident."
