Thousands of people have turned out for events right across our region to celebrate the switching on of Christmas lights displays.

Reindeer travel through Lincoln

Lincoln's reindeer

Reindeer will be travelling through Lincoln today. A pair of the festive animals from Rand Farm Park in Wragby will travel to Lincoln to take residence in City Square from 11am to 3pm.

The reindeer will be accompanied by Father Christmas and his sleigh, thanks to the Rotary Club of Lincoln, whose festively-dressed members will be doing their usual Christmas charity collections.

On Thursday, Lincoln's Christmas lights will be switched on by our very own weatherman Jon Mitchell.

Tonight's light switch-on ceremonies

More of the Calendar region will be lit up tonight as two more switch-on ceremonies get underway.

Olympic medallist Sarah Stevenson will flick the switch in Doncaster, with live music, guest stars and festive fun from 4 - 6pm.

Emmerdale star and Leeds lad Matthew Wolfenden will do the honours at the White Rose Centre at 7.30pm, followed by performances from Rollin’ Dices and Slam! at 8pm.

Sporting champions and singing stars out for the Christmas lights bash

West Yorkshire's very own world champion triathlete Jonathan Brownlee and Leeds' world junior diving champion Jack Laugher will be joined by Britain's Got Talent's Loveable Rogue and Tyler James from The Voice to help Leeds celebrate its Christmas lights switch-on.

The all-star party-line up doesn't stop there,Leeds Rhinos and England captain Kevin Sinfield will be there with the Super League trophy as well as the Rugby League World Cup trophy.

A gang from Leeds United will also be at the event - manager Neil Warnock along with some of his first-team players.

"The annual Christmas Lights Switch-On is a great family event and this year's line-up will make for a fantastic and fun evening. With musical performances and celebrating the amazing success of Leeds sports stars and our London 2012 athletes, there is something for everyone to enjoy and a perfect opportunity to really get into the Christmas spirit."

It's set to take place at Victoria Gardens in the city centre tonight at 6.45pm.

Sheffield's got The Wanted for Christmas Switch-on

UK/Irish boy band The Wanted are heading to Meadowhall in Sheffield for tonight's Christmas lights switch-on event.

The charity event will take place in Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield tonight. The Wanted, who are Max George, Nathan Sykes, Tom Parker, Jay Parkinson and Siva Kaneswaran will be headlining the night's entertainment.

The band formed in 2009 and had a number one single with 'All Time Low'.

Sheffield superstar Jess Ennis in hometown lights switch-on

Sheffield's Golden Girl Jess Ennis will be a star attraction at tonight's Meadowhall lights switch-on.

The British heptathlete and patron of the Children's Hospital Charity, whom supports and enhances the work of The Children's Hospital in Sheffield, will be joining big name acts such as The Wanted and Misha B tonight to celebrate the switch on off this year's Christmas lights.

The Olympic gold medallist will also be signing copies of her book 'Unbelievable: From My Childhood Dreams to Winning Olympic Gold' at the event.
