A balcony has collapsed at a hotel and restaurant in Brighouse, leaving five people injured.

Ambulance service statement on balcony collapse

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: “We received an emergency call at 11.54 today to reports of a ‘balconycollapse’ at Casa Restaurant on Elland Road in Brighouse.

“We dispatched a number of resources to the scene including five ambulances, our Hazardous Area Response Team who are specially trained and equipped to respond to this type of incident, as well as the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and a doctor.

" One male patient has been airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary and four female patients have been transported by land ambulance to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. All sustained serious injuries but none are believed to be life-threatening at this time.”


Five hurt in balcony collapse

Five people have been hurt, some badly, after a restaurant balcony collapsed today.

The incident happened at the Casa hotel and restaurant on Elland Road inBrighouse, West Yorkshire.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Some of those injured are believed to be serious."

Emergency services were called at around noon and said some details of the incident have yet to emerge.

West Yorkshire fire brigade said firefighters were currently at the scene. A fire spokesman added: "We have reports of five casualties."
