Students in Hull claim a plan by the council to reduce the number of student houses around the university could have a devastating effect on the local community.

They are petitioning the council to ditch the proposal for an area where local businesses rely heavily on the student population to survive.

But planning officials have justified their action saying they have had numerous complaints from local residents about noise, fly tipping and anti-social behaviour. Fiona Dwyer reports
