A man from Sheffield has been found guilty of murdering a three-year-old girl - his partner's only child.

A jury at Sheffield Crown Court found Delroy Catwell guilty of murdering Lylah Aaron, who had suffered brain injuries and broken ribs in her home in Shiregreen.

Delroy Catwell should have been caring for three-year-old Lylah Aaron while her mother was at work.

Police tonight welcomed the verdict and said Lylah had been subjected to a "sustained and forceful" attack. Catwell will be sentenced tomorrow afternoon following the trial, which lasted three weeks.

Detective Superintendent Dave Barraclough, who led the investigation, said: “This has been a particularly harrowing case for all concerned.

“Lylah was a happy, innocent girl, much loved by her family. Only a day before she was seen running and skipping around, like any other child of her age.

“It’s horrific that she was viciously murdered by Catwell, a man who should have been caring for her.

“I would like to extend our sympathies to Lylah’s family at this difficult time.”
