MPs raise concern over fire service cuts

Chesterfield MP, Toby Perkins, raised concerns in the Commons on Monday night over budget cuts he says will have a serious affect on fire cover in the county.

He says the authority has had to deliver £3 million in savings since 2010 and will have to make more cuts in the next few years.

Other MPs are worried about the restructuring of the service which they claim will reduce response time and make the county far more reliant on retained fire fighters. His comments come the week after four people died in a house fire in North Wingfield, within his constituency.
