Tributes for Doncaster teacher

Tributes have been paid to a junior school teacher - described as passionate and encouraging - who died in his sleep hours after allegedly being attacked in a Doncaster nightclub.

24 year old Lewis Siddall, who was a twin, taught PE at Copley Junior school in Sprotborough and today the headmaster said he will be greatly missed by the staff, governors, children and parents.

Detectives started a major investigation after his body was found and a man, arrested over the weekend on suspicion of murder, has been released on bail. David Hirst reports

Head Teacher - Lewis was a 'truly lovely young man'

The Head Teacher of Copley Junior School has paid tribute to a teacher who died this weekend.

We are greatly shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of Lewis Siddall. Lewis was a greatly valued member of our staffing team. He was passionate about encouraging pupils to participate in and enjoy sport. He taught PE and Games throughout school and willingly gave his time after school and at weekends to support our football and cross country teams. Lewis was a truly lovely young man – enthusiastic, mild mannered, polite and always vigilant about pupils’ safety.

In May, Lewis decided that he would like to support the Eve Merton Charity, a local cancer charity for children that grants wishes for serious and terminally ill patients in the Doncaster area. He played in a team of Doncaster teachers against ex-professionals and raised over £700. That Lewis wanted to do this, and so many staff and families went to watch and support him, is testimony to his kind and considerate nature and how popular and well regarded he was.

Lewis will be greatly missed by staff, governors, children and parents. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with his family at this time.

"Such devastating news, my heart goes out to his family and friends. A massive loss to Copley School where Lewis was a highly respected teacher. His gentle nature, sense of fun, energy and enthusiasm made my daughters enjoy every lesson with him and look forward to the next... So sad now. Thank you Mr Siddall.

All the children loved you Lewis RIP there is no justice in the world x

"My daughter described him as 'like a dad' on their school residential, when they returned. High praise indeed. Mr Siddall had to cope with all the bags of medication that accompanies her everywhere and I'm a total control freak about it all. He told me that it was his job to look after her and I mustn't worry - with a calm and caring way of someone much older. A total credit to his family- and the truth is, after that, I didn't worry knowing she was in his care. A delightful and kind young man."

"What a sad loss of such a nice guy. My thoughts and prayers are for Mr. Siddalls family and friends during these testing times. Mr. Siddall was my sons favourite teacher at Copley school and shared his passion for Man Utd. What a great loss to many." R.I.P
